The Emanuel Synagogue sisterhood's

1st annual

tu b'av

move-a-thon fundraiser

Sunday, august 2-friday, august 7, 2020

Why a move-a-thon?

At a time when medical experts are telling us to separate, due to COVID-19, including from many whom we love, The Emanuel Sisterhood, thinks it’s important to come together—for a cause. Our Sisterhood won’t let COVID-19 keep our community apart. We can all join together, while staying in our safe spaces, to raise funds for the Sisterhood and synagogue we love. Appropriately, we will enjoy this special event during the Jewish holiday of love, Tu B’Av! Let’s ALL come together to love thy neighbor, stay safe, stay healthy, and most of all love our Emanuel family.

As it says in Leviticus, Parsha Kedoshim, explained further by Rabbi Akiva in the Talmud:

ואהבת לרעך כמוך

V’ahavta l’reacha comocha — Love thy neighbor as thyself.

Let us all stay happy and healthy together, yet separate, as we support our Sisterhood in raising funds for our Emanuel community, through walking, running, biking, swimming, yoga, or any activity of your choice during August 2 - 7, 2020.

what is tu b'av?

Tu B'av is the Jewish Day of Love. Originally, in ancient times, the 15th of the month of Av served as a day of matchmaking for unmarried women. Now, it is celebrated similarly to Valentine's Day and recognizes love in all forms. In modern Israeli culture, you can find celebrations full of song and dance.
